DANVILLE — A popular antiques store along East Main Street in Danville has closed.
Rabbittown Antiques and Artisans’ closure was announced on its Facebook page on Saturday.
The post reads, “After lots of thought, we have come to the realization that with the economy like it is, we just can’t afford to keep the doors open. We do thank all our staff vendors and customers from the bottom of our hearts.”
The post also stated that the owners still have another shop open in Montezuma, Ind.
The Danville antiques mall, 419 E. Main St., has had about 30-40 vendor booths. It’s been open since 2011, with then owners Gail and Gary Miller. Owner Dean Gregg took over two years ago.
Vendors and customers were surprised at the announcement and sudden closure.
The antiques store building has an interesting history too.
The north end of the Rabbittown building was built in 1903, probably for Eastside Bakery, Gail Miller has said. The south end was built in 1932 for the Athens Food Market.
Gregg could not be reached for comment.
