Description of Incident:
The Danville Fire Department was called to the 600 Blk of N Griffin Street at 11:13 AM on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Upon arrival firefighters reported seeing a large amount of smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Occupants of the home reported to firefighters that everyone was out of the structure.
The construction features of the home and yesterday’s high heat conditions made fighting the fire a challenge. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion at the scene. They were transported by ambulance to OSF for treatment and were later released in good condition.
Danville Fire Investigators, who were assisted by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshals Investigator, determined the cause of the fire to have been the result of one of the homes mechanical systems malfunctioning.
Fire Units Cleared: 5:56 PM
Fire Cause: Mechanical System Failure
Injuries: One Firefighter was treated and released for heat exhaustion.
Smoke Alarm Status: No working detectors present.
Estimated Dollar Loss: $ 20,000.00
