DANVILLE — A pedestrian was killed on Illinois Route 1, Gilbert Street, on Sunday near the Days Hotel, according to the Illinois State Police.
The preliminary investigation indicates ISP Troop 7 units responded to a fatal traffic crash involving a pedestrian at approximately 4:11 a.m. Sunday, July 21 at the Days Hotel, 77 N. Gilbert St., Danville.
The vehicle, a 2014 Ford Fusion, was traveling north on Gilbert Street when a pedestrian entered the roadway in front of the vehicle, not in a crosswalk or at an intersection, according to the ISP.
The ISP states the pedestrian struck the vehicle in the roadway. The pedestrian was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital due to injuries sustained as a result of the crash.
The vehicle driver was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs causing death.
ISP officials said there is no further information available at this time.
