It was a definite sign of the coming school year in Danville High School’s Fieldhouse on Wednesday (July 31st). Personnel from the district and various schools and organizations were on hand for “Centralized Registration Day” from 10 AM to 7 PM.
District Registrar and Board Secretary Lakesha Robinson pointed out that online registration will continue to be open; but doing it Wednesday if not done yet was important for getting students on record for bus transportation at the start of the school year. She also pointed out the advantages this year when it comes to fees and school supplies.
AUDIO: The Board of Education waived fees for this coming school year. So, parents will not be responsible for paying any fees. And their children also, by getting them registered before the first day of school, will have school supplies provided for them as well.

A couple stations over from there, Danville High School principal Jacob Bretz said it had been steadily busy for Centralized Registration Day, but not as crowded as in the past. He says that seems to be a sign that more families are comfortable registering online.
AUDIO: We had, last count, a little over 700 that had already registered at the high school, returning students; which is a much higher number, especially before August begins. It’s been about like what you see, but it’s been a consistent flow. We haven’t been slammed like in past years.
District Athletic Director Mark Bacys was there, so we could not resist asking him about the new football field; with the first girls flag football game coming up on August 29th and the football team’s opener on the 30th. Bacys says that outside of probably needing some temporary railings at the start of the season, everything is right on schedule.
AUDIO: They’re finishing up the press box; finishing up the east side lights. The west side is up along the building; they’re going to put the east side up. Some railings will have to come in; they’re a little bit behind with manufacturing.
The new District 118 school year begins on Wednesday, August 14th.
