During a rather brief Tuesday evening (Aug 6th) Danville City Council meeting, the Council heard complaints from a resident who lives on National Avenue about sewer backup issues. Frank Jackson said it’s not just he who’s had to rent one of those snake tools to try and clear his sewer line; but others living near him, he says, have done the same.
National Avenue runs north from East Main Street near VA Illiana Health Care, and Danville Director of Public Works David Ruwe says this is a problem he is not familiar with. So the key right now, Ruwe says, is information. He says if anyone living on or near National Avenue is having such problems, report them immediately; so they can get out there, take a look, and see if it’s a city problem.

AUDIO: Anytime citizens have sewer backups, we always kind of encourage them to give us a call, if they believe it’s on the city side, as it’s happening. We can run our televising camera, the sewer camera, through it; and just see there might be happening there. We really have to go through an investigative process to see what the real cause is.
The City of Danville Public Works phone number is 217-431-2288. Ruwe says if it’s after business hours; call the Danville Police non-emergency number of 217-431-2250, so that they can contact Public Works.
Vice-Mayor Tricia Teague presided over Tuesday evening’s meeting, as Mayor Williams was away.
