Danville, IL- The Vermilion County Coroner, Jane McFadden stated that the man discovered by Stoney Creek in the 400 block of E. Williams Street on Wednesday afternoon has been identified has been identified as Stephen R. Petmecky of Rantoul, Illinois.
His mother and family have been notified. An autopsy is scheduled for this morning. The Danville Police Department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s office continue to investigate.

DANVILLE, Ill. — On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at approximately 4:22 p.m., Danville Police officers responded to a report of a man down and unresponsive in the 400 block of East Williams Street near Stoney Creek.
Upon arrival, officers located a 45-year-old Stephen Petmecky lying beside the creek. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Based on the initial investigation, officers observed no signs of trauma, and no foul play is suspected at this time. The Danville Police Department is continuing to review the circumstances of the incident and is awaiting autopsy results from the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office to determine the
official cause of death.
