State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton) presents copies of House Resolution 14 to the Daughters of the American Revolution on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
“The Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution play a vital role in preserving our nation’s history and teaching new generations what it means to be an American,” Yocum said. “As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we’re reminded that the ideals of liberty, service and civic responsibility are not just history – they are responsibilities we carry forward. I’m grateful for the work DAR and SAR do every day to keep that legacy alive.”

The Sons of the American Revolution was founded in 1889 followed by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1890. Both were created to preserve American history, promote patriotism and honor the ancestors who aided the Revolutionary cause in the founding of the United States.
Members of both organizations must have a direct, lineal descent from an ancestor who supported the American Revolution.
