DANVILLE, IL – The Jaguars live to see another day as they climb past Lincoln Land in the Region 24 Semifinal and will play in the Region Championship on Saturday.
Danville (25-3) hosted the Loggers of Lincoln Land (12-12) in the Mary Miller Gymnasium Friday afternoon, and it was a tough battle between the two teams till the end. The Jaguars maintained their lead in the first half till the eight minute mark when the Loggers knocked down a 3-pointer. Danville answered with a jump shot, but Lincoln Land went back on top with another made 3 to make it 22-19. It continued to go back and forth the remainder of the first half, and the lead went in Danville’s favor heading into halftime with a score of 34-32.
The Jaguars improved their offense in the second half, jumping from 33.3% in field-goals in the first twenty minutes, to 68% in the second twenty minutes. Danville also outrebounded the Loggers 16-12 in the second half. The closest the Jaguars allowed Lincoln Land to get was within one point with under ten minutes to go, but Danville stayed on top throughout the second half. They were able to stretch their lead to ten late in the half, and eventually made it a twelve point lead after a slam dunk from Jordan Dickson with 41 seconds remaining. The Jaguars got a stop on the defensive end, and dribbled out the rest of the way to earn the 77-65 victory.
Four Jaguars were in double figures this game. DeShawn Clark scored 17 points, Danzell Anantoewe scored 14 with 9 rebounds, Jeremiah Poniewaz added 13, and Jeremy Wilson contributed 10.

Danville will play for the Region 24 Championship on Saturday, March 7th at 4pm in the Mary Miller Gymnasium and will face the winner of the second semifinal between Rend Lake College and Parkland College. The winner will automatically advance to the NJCAA Division II Men’s National Tournament here in Danville.
