CATLIN — An online threat regarding Salt Fork High School in Catlin caused officials to cancel school on Tuesday.
Later in the day, the school district announced a student had been arrested for the online threat.
Salt Fork’s School Resource Officers and local police department “were able to determine the origin of the threat. An arrest has been made, and the student who made the post will face the appropriate charges and student discipline,” according to the school district.
It continued, “The police have determined that the threat was, in fact, a hoax. However, threats against the school, even if made in jest, are serious matters and will be treated as such.”
School district officials thank the law enforcement officers for their efforts in addressing the matter in a timely fashion.
All schools will be in session on Wednesday.
School district officials Tuesday morning stated, “we were made aware of an anonymous online threat towards the high school. As a precaution, we have placed all our buildings on a soft lockdown. While police believe this is most likely a hoax, we have made the decision at this time to cancel all schools for the day.”
