DANVILLE — “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life,” or so the saying goes. Two Vermilion County women who continue to work full-time into their 80s have put those words into practice.
Both Marjie Edington, 85, who works as a bookkeeper, human-resources assistant and coordinator of Goldie’s Gift Shop at the Hawthorne Inn assisted-living facility, and Karen Rayfield, 81, a receptionist at Liberty Estates retirement apartments since 1998, say they don’t mind the daily grind of heading to work in the morning — though on some summer days, it’s tempting to skip work.
Both are healthy, say they enjoy their co-workers and residents, and — as Edington said — follow Danville native Dick Van Dyke’s advice to just “keep moving.”
Co-worker Amy Thompson describes the two as “Thelma and Louise.”
