News story here.
On Monday evening (May 4th), in front of a packed crowd in the Soar Space Business Center she created in Danville’s Towne Center, Alderwoman Tricia Teague made it official that she’s running for Mayor of Danville in the Spring of 2027.
Teague talked about more transparency, having a 12-point plan for the future, and that she was making the announcement one year before she plans to be sworn in; on Tuesday, May 4th, 2027.
One of her comments to those in attendance was “looking forward to doing the work, and getting the work done.” She gave two examples of that afterwards.
AUDIO: Having more businesses started in our community; home grown businesses. Because Superman is not coming, so we need to grow our own. And then also, reductions in gun violence in our community. Having a multitude of activities and opportunities for our young people to participate in; to be able to show them alternate paths, than being out in the streets.

And of course, on the topic of gun violence; Danville is coming off a tragic weekend, with one life lost and six people wounded. Teague mentioned a long range goal to think about; to go back to the days in Danville where the noise you worried about at night was the train whistles.
AUDIO: There’s a lot of people who walk around on edge because they have a lot of concerns and fear. Parents have fear about their children; children have fear. I’ve talked with young people who have fear; in terms of being outside, and being in open spaces. So (the goal is) to be able to have peace of mind and walk around and enjoy walking around in our community.
The current Danville mayor is Rickey Williams, Jr; with the Reverend Frank McCullough and retired police officer Dennis Witsman having previously announced their candidacies. The Consolidated Election dates for 2027 are the main election on April 6th, with a primary if necessary on February 23rd.
