Letter carriers in the Danville area are helping in the fight against hunger. On Saturday (May 9, 2026) the letter carriers are asking residents along their routes to leave a bag of non-perishable food items near their mailbox. The carriers will collect those items and see that they are delivered to the Danville Area Food Pantry for distribution to individuals and families in need.
The National Association of Letter Carriers conducts the food drive each year on the second Saturday in May. Items they are seeking include such things as cans of fruit and vegetables, soup, cereal, canned meat and tuna. Other items include peanut butter, canola oil and pasta. You should avoid leaving items that are in a glass container.
