‘Operation Viper’
SPRINGFIELD — The FBI’s Springfield Field Office has announced the results of a sweep performed last month across East Central Illinois that included several searches and arrests in Danville.
In a release, the office said the five-day sweep, which it dubbed “Operation Viper,” resulted in 29 arrests, the recovery of seven illegally possessed guns and the seizure of more than $8,200 connected to drug sales.
“Operation Viper focused on locating and apprehending violent offenders with active warrants,” FBI officials said in the release, adding that was “focused on the most ‘high-impact’ fugitives in that region.”
The sweep resulted in the seizure of five handguns and two assault rifles, along with more than 9 pounds of marijuana, 780 grams of unidentified pills, 50 grams of cocaine and a half-pound of methamphetamine.
