Shelley Erickson’s Schlarman Academy South third grade class has been working on various projects as this year’s selected Ambassador Class for the 2023 Balloons Over Vermilion at Vermilion Regional Airport. One of the traditional activities for the selected class is the launching of helium balloons with messages, and seeing if they receive a response when the balloons are found.

The launch took place Thursday (May 18th) morning in the Schlarman Academy South Campus parking lot. Each student named their balloon after a favorite food or favorite candy. If any of them are found, there is an e-mail address that can be used to contact Ms. Erickson. The teacher told Neuhoff Media, any that are found are usually within Vermilion County. But then again, you never know!
AUDIO: It gives you a place to pinpoint where in Vermilion County they landed. And they make it very bright so you can see it. (Do we know for sure they’ll land in Vermilion County?) I hope so! (Have you ever heard of them landing outside of Vermilion County?) I have not. Vermilion County’s pretty big. Maybe they’ll land in the other Vermillion County, but we’ll see how it goes.
Balloons Over Vermilion will be Friday, July 7th; and Saturday, July 8th.
