As we get ready for winter, it’s a time where many look at their utility bills. Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr is encouraging residents to “look at the historical data” from the past few years before making any change when it comes to the City of Danville’s electric aggregation contract with Homefield Energy.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: People with Ameren the last three years have paid as high as a little more than 12 cents per kilowatt hour. Meantime, the citizens of Danville who stayed in this program only paid a little more that five cents per kilowatt hour. So you can see; a less than half of what the Ameren rate has been historically.
A recent mailing went out, letting residents know that Homefield’s per kilowatt hour charge is looking to go up from just over five cents to just over nine cents. Mayor Williams says; yes, that new Homefield price may currently be a penny above the just over eight cents per kilowatt hour charge that Ameren is currently using. But the mayor also says; be careful, because at this point it is not known how much Ameren’s cost will increase down the road. And Williams says, an increase certainly seems to be coming.

That means that money is going to have to be realized from their customers. So we don’t know, percentage wise, how much per kilowatt hour that’s going to mean. But we as the customers, if this is approved, will definitely bear the burden of that.
Mayor Williams reminds Danville residents that the number to call to opt out of the electric aggregation contract with Homefield Energy, or to simply ask questions, is 866-694-1262.
