After a couple of months of bad news, the overall jobs picture for both Vermilion County and Danville showed improvement from August to September, although unemployment levels continued to be significantly higher than they were one year ago.
Vermilion County’s unemployment rate dropped from 7.1% in August to 6.3% in September. Vermilion County’s rate stood way back at 4.4% in September of 2022.
The City of Danville’ September unemployment rate came in at 7.6%, after being up at 8.4% in August. Danville’s rate was much lower, at 5.4%, in September of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 1,000 jobs overall, when comparing September of 2023 with September of 2022. Looking at more specific categories; Leisure and Hospitality jobs were up by 500, Government jobs were up by 400, Financial Activities and Education and Health Services jobs were both up by 100, and Professional Business Services jobs had dropped by 100; from September of 2022 to September of 2023.
