THE FOLLOWING RELEASE IS FROM STATE REP ADAM NIEMERG’S OFFICE
SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) is very critical of the inaction by the Democrats in the Illinois House on the important issue of education scholarships for low-income students in Illinois. Following is his statement:
“The fact that this issue did not even get a vote in the Illinois House of Representatives exposes the complete hypocrisy of the Speaker of the House who sends his own kids to a private school, but he will not allow lower income children in need to do the same. I have pushed for this initiative to continue since day one and believe the positive impact on the children who have benefited from this scholarship program shows that we need to expand it, not kill it in Illinois.
The Democrat Caucus should be ashamed of themselves for putting special interest groups over kids. Many Democrats send their kids to private schools because they feel their own children deserve the best education available. Parents who are not politically connected or financially wealthy deserve the same options.”
Unless the Governor or the Speaker calls the House back into special session, the school choice scholarship tax credit program will expire on Dec. 31st because lawmakers did not pass an extension this week.
