DANVILLE – The Diversity Team at Danville Area Community College has packed this month with events to celebrate Black History Month.
This Week —
Today, Tuesday, February 20: Two FREE showings of the movie, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, at Noon and 5:30 in the Bremer Theater. From IMDb, “In 1951, cancerous cells from Henrietta Lacks lead to breakthroughs that change the face of medicine forever. Aided by writer Rebecca Skloot, Deborah Lacks embarks on a quest to learn about the mother she never knew.” The movie was produced by and stars Oprah Winfrey as Deborah Lacks.

Wednesday, February 21: Game Day in the Student Union, 11:30am to 1:00pm

Saturday, February 24: PACC the Place at Mary Miller Gymnasium when the DACC Women’s and Men’s basketball teams take on John Wood CC at 1:00pm and 3:00pm respectively. In addition to Sophomore recognition, Black History Month events will include singing of the Black National Anthem and a performance by the Legends Dance Team. Admission is only $1.

Thursday, February 29: Music Festival featuring local, cultural performances in the Bremer Theater at 6:00pm.
