The area jobs picture for March to April is showing improvement for the third consecutive month. Statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security show Vermilion County’s unemployment rate dropping from 5.7% in March to 5.3% in April. Vermilion County’s rate was 5.1% in April of 2023.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate dropped from 6.3% in March to 6.2% in April. Danville’s rate stood at 5.9% in April of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 100 jobs from April of 2023 to April of 2024. Looking at specific categories: Private Education and Health Services were up by 300 jobs; while Government, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, and Retail Trade all showed gains of 100 jobs.
On the negative side, Manufacturing had dropped by 300 jobs from one year ago; while Leisure and Hospitality and Wholesale Trade both showed decreases of 100 jobs.
