Danville Police have told Neuhoff Media that the accident along North Vermilion outside Danville Public Library Monday afternoon occurred when a Hyundai Sonata turned left from Madison to go north on Vermilion. The driver apparently did not see a mail truck also going north on Vermilion, made contact with the mail truck, and continued going north until it lost control, went over the curb on to the public library property, and damaged the Festival of Trees decorative pole tree with lights.
Danville Library Director Jennifer Hess said there were witnesses, but no patrons were hurt.

AUDIO: I don’t think anyone was ever in danger. It all happened pretty quickly, and there were some people who witnessed it from the parking lot. I actually was one of the people who called 911, because I saw it happen from my office window.
The accident occurred around 2:40 PM.
