A rather quiet Primary Election Day in Vermilion County had ballots full of candidates without opposition, or sometimes positions with no candidates, on both the Republican and Democrat sides. Turnout was low. In fact, with all 38 precincts counted, the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office reported 4,208 votes cast among 27,529 registered voters. That’s a 15.3% turnout. As for the City of Danville, with all 22 precincts counted, the Danville Election Commission reported 1,676 votes cast among 18,104 registered voters.
It is now official that Democrat Jarrett Clem and Republican Brandon Schweizer will battle for who is elected to the 104th Illinois House District seat to take Mike Marron’s old spot. Schweizer currently holds the position, having been appointed after Marron stepped down to take the Vermilion Advantage CEO position.
In Vermilion County, Supervisor of Assessments Matt Long defeated current Deputy Recorder Cathy Moulton in the race to replace current Recorder Dave Stone, who did not seek reelection. Combining the Vermilion County Clerk’s and Danville Election Commission’s votes; Long received 2,663 votes, while Moulton received 1,559 votes. There was no Democratic candidate for Recorder.
