The area jobs picture is showing a change from a negative shift to a positive shift when looking at the January to February numbers. Statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security show Vermilion County’s unemployment rate dropping from 6.6% in January to 6.1% in February. Vermilion County’s rate came in at six percent flat in February of 2023.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate dropped from 7.3% in January to 6.6% in February. Danville’s rate stood back at 6.1% in February of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 200 jobs from February of 2023 to February of 2024. Looking at more specific categories: Educational and Health Services were up by 300 jobs; while Government, Transportaion-Warehousing-Utilities, Mining and Construction, and Retail Trade all showed a gain of 100 jobs.
On the negative side, Manufacturing had dropped 300 jobs from one year ago, with Professional-Business Services and Wholesale Trade both dropping by 100.
