The David S. Palmer Arena may soon receive help from the county to install a new HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system. The Finance and Personnel Committee of the County Board recommended at its meeting Tuesday evening that the County give $100-thousand dollars toward the upgrades.
Dean Shore of the Arena board said new estimates place the cost for the HVAC system around $900-thousand dollars – which is less than earlier estimates. Shore said the Julius Hegeler II Foundation earlier offered $750-thousand dollars to help the civic center, contingent upon getting a combined match from the City of Danville and Vermilion County Board for the other half of the cost. The County Board must approve the 100 thousand dollars that was recommended by the committee at Tuesday’s meeting. The money would come from interest being earned on the $5-million, 997-thousand dollars in ARPA funds the county has invested.
