ABOVE: After effects of a house fire on Commercial Drive in Danville in mid April
During Tuesday (April 23rd) evening’s Danville City Council Public Services Committee meeting, Fire Chief Aaron Marcott’s regular report included 15 structure fires over the past month. And for the year, the Danville Fire Department has already responded to 34 structure/multi-alarm fires, compared to 53 for the entire 2023 calendar year.
Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says the police and fire departments are actively investigating this, and some progress has already been made. The mayor stated there are some suspects, and some folks who have been detained; one of them, being a juvenile.
The mayor says with purposely set fires, just like any other crimes, please speak up if you know anything. And that includes hearsay.
AUDIO: You may not have seen what actually happened, but you may overhear somebody talking about it. So if you see something, hear something, or you KNOW something; one of your family members or friends is talking about something bad that they did; we have to choose the greater good and say something.
Fire Chief Marcott agreed that the best thing residents can do is keep police and fire officials informed about what’s going on in their neighborhoods.
As always, the numbers to call are Danville Police at 217-431-2250; or Vermilion County Crimestoppers at 217-446-TIPS (8477).
