The area jobs picture is showing improvement for the second consecutive month. Statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security show Vermilion County’s unemployment rate dropping from 6.1% in February to 5.7% in March. Vermilion County’s rate was also 5.7% in March of 2023.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate dropped from 6.6% in February to 6.3% in March. Danville’s rate stood at six percent flat in March of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase in 300 jobs from March of 2023 to March of 2024. Looking at specific categories: Private Education and Health Services were up by 300 jobs, while Government, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, Mining and Construction, and Retail Trade all showed a gain of 100 jobs.
On the negative side, Manufacturing had dropped by 300 jobs from one year ago, while Wholesale Trade had dropped by 100 jobs.
