DANVILLE — Eighteen-year-old Laney Cook is among three high-achieving students from Westville who are summa cum laude candidates at Danville Area Community College, each boasting perfect 4.0 GPAs.
And on Sunday, two days after they’ll be presented with their associate in arts degrees at DACC’s Mary Miller Gymnasium, Cook, Lillian Shuey and Lainey Wichtowski will each receive a second diploma — from Westville High School.
Cook, who is one of Westville’s seven dual-credit students to be celebrating two graduation days in one weekend this year, will be among the featured speakers at Friday’s DACC ceremony.
The message she hopes her fellow graduates will take away from her talk: “Everybody’s had hard times, and we need to be easier on each other. We’re all kind of going through life together. Everybody has different stories.”
