Illinois reports 1,545 new COVID-19 cases with 146 additional deaths in Tuesday’s update. With more than 18,000 tests processed in the past 24 hours, the positivity rate was eight percent. State totals are now 98,030 cases including 4,379 deaths.

As the state legislature returns to Springfield Wednesday, House Speaker Michael Madigan says safety precautions related to COVID-19 must be enforced. In a statement released Tuesday, Madigan said upon convening Wednesday, the House will vote on changes requiring members, staff and the public to wear masks, submit to temperature checks and observe social distancing. Madigan says any House member who does not comply will face discipline that could include removal from the chamber by a vote of the House. Staff and members of the public who do not comply would be asked to leave immediately.
