Downtown Danville’s First Fridays event for the month of August will once again be a Back to School Bash, including free backpacks for the first 300 students. The Public Library will once again have a unique attraction called “Stranger Things: Curse of the Vecna.” (The library will actually have that BOTH Friday and Saturday nights, 6 to 10 PM).
Rheanna Ollis, now working as Community Relations Coordinator for the City of Danville, recently told Tommy B on D102’s The Big Show that YES, the firetruck will be there again on Friday the 4th, allowing everyone to keep cool, and much more.
AUDIO: We’re also going to have live music. We’ll have food trucks. We’re going to have touch-a-truck activity. I believe we’re going to have a police car, a school bus, and a couple of others; so that will be fun. The Danville Fire Department is doing a truck sprinkler.

Rheanna Ollis has been around Danville for a while; first working under Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer as an intern, working for the Finance Department, and now working with Ashton again. And Ollis says, one thing for sure; First Fridays caught her attention right away.
AUDIO: There is nothing like being downtown and seeing the whole community kind of travel together, and talk to each other; and just enjoy the time outside with the event. And many people; they’re not on their phones. They’re really just talking to each other; they’re walking around.
Now that Ollis is on her team permanently, Ashton Greer will be a little less involved with day-to-day planning for First Fridays events. But Greer told Tommy B that her main focus right now is how to MARKET THE CITY OF DANVILLE, for both now and in the future.
AUDIO: I’ll be working with White Smith Marketing. We already have started this process on branding our city. So, creating a tag line, telling our story. What are our pillars? What are the things about Danville that are beautiful? What’s possible here in Danville?
Friday night’s Downtown Danville First Fridays Back to School Bash runs 5 to 8 PM.
