Sunday’s hot weather failed to deter riders who participated in the Westville American Legion’s ‘150 Miles for Westville’ event. John Pigg, director of the American Legion Riders Post 51 in Westville, described the purpose of Sunday’s ride….
{AUDIO: ”Well, we decided to put something together for the Wreaths Across America, and to do it on the 150th birthday for the Westville city. Thought what we would do is a 150 mile ride. So we’ll do a 75 mile one-way and 75 miles back to honor of Westville, and also all proceeds are going Wreaths Across America to cover wreaths in the Westville cemeteries.}
Pigg noted Sunday’s ride was for a special cause…
{AUDIO: “It’s very unique. Normally we wouldn’t do something like this, but we were asked to. And we very proud in wanting to be able to participate in such a great festivity, and such a great start to the two-weeks of the Westville celebration.”}
Ride captain Dennis Knight said the riders would be going to Murdock, Illinois before heading back to Westville. The riders passed through several towns including Potomac, Penfield, Ridge Farm, Fairmount and Sidell as part of Westville’s Sesquicentennial Celebration. Events marking Westville’s 150th birthday kicked off Saturday and include activities everyday through Labor Day, September 4th.
