Discussions are resuming today (Tuesday March 5th) between representatives of the City of Danville and Vermilion County regarding the planned demolition of Bresee Tower and the Daniel Building (formerly the courthouse annex). County Board Chairman Larry Baughn told members of the Board’s Finance and Personnel Committee last evening (Monday March 4th) that Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. told him that more small pieces of terra cotta fell from Bresee Tower last week, and the Mayor and City Corporation Counsel are concerned that more might fall.
The Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office has completed a review of a joint agreement between the City of Danville and Vermilion County regarding the planned demolition. Under that agreement the city will pay for the demolition of Bresee Tower and the County will pay for the removal of the former courthouse annex. The demolition is expected to get underway later this year.
