News story here.
March is Severe Weather Preparedness Month. Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency Director Russell Rudd says residents certainly need to be “weather aware,” as spring is when most severe weather occurs. He says there’s one way in particular that can help you be “weather aware.”
AUDIO: Actually, we really recommend that people get our “alerting APP” that we have. And so that way, whenever the National Weather Service issues a watch, warning, or an advisory; well then they get that information.
Rudd says to receive that app, you can go the county web site, vercounty.org select “emergency management,” and you’ll find the spot to sign up for your emergency alerts. And in addition, you can text your zip code, work or home, to 888777.
Rudd also says one good thing now is that due to all the cell phones, social media, and available information; he believes people are much more aware of the weather today than in the past.
