The NJCAA Division II Basketball Tournament at Danville Area Community College will once again dominate the local scene next week. This time, with 20 teams instead of 16; it runs Monday, March 18th; until the champion is crowned Saturday night the 23rd. Tournament Chairman Brian Hensgen says; yes, it’s a little different this year with more teams and the Monday start. But everyone is ready to go.
AUDIO: I think everyone’s holding up pretty well. Added day, added fun, added extra activity here around Danville Area Community College. We’re excited about what’s in front of us. And I feel as we put on the final touches of preparation, we’re ready to go; and we’re looking forward to our teams arriving.
For Jeanie Cook and her Danville Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau staff, it’s a matter of moving operations over to DACC’s Mary Miller Gymnasium for the week. And a full team of volunteers is ready to roll as always. Jeanie says it will seem like she’s always there, because she is; and wouldn’t have it any other way.
AUDIO: It’s a busy few days, because now you have to move operations out of the office and out to the arena. We’re excited; we love this time of the year. There’s a smile on everybody’s face. I go there at 6:30 in the morning, and I leave about 10:30 at night. It’s a labor of love.
The first game is at 9 AM Monday morning; all games will be heard on 1490 WDAN. You can get tickets at the door; or go online ahead of time to the DACC Athletics Page, and get them from the Jaguar Box Office.
