Exactly one week after the March 19th Primary Election, petition packets for anyone wanting to run as an independent candidate, or as part of a new party, for a position on this November 5th’s General Election ballot; may pick up their petition packets at the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office starting Tuesday morning, March 26th, at 8 AM.
Clerk’s Office Supervisor of Elections Carrie Wilson explains.
AUDIO: This is anybody who would like to file, who is not affiliated with the Democratic or Republican party, who would like to run as an independent; or if they have a new party they would like to form. Petition circulation for party candidates began in December; but independent and new parties, that is after the primary. So, while a primary is where you declare your party; new party and independents would not be a declared party, so their petition and circulation periods come after the primary.
That’s the Clerk’s Office, in the Joseph G Cannon Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion. Signatures will need to be collected over the next couple of months, as the filing period begins in June.
